Annual Run for the Fallen CT - Saturday, September 21, 2019
The 10th annual memorial event will take place at the CT Trees of Honor Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park in Middletown, CT. It is a run, walk and public gathering honoring the 65 fallen service members from Connecticut that we’ve lost since 9/11. One kilometer of the run is dedicated to each of the 65 service members. It is also a greater remembrance of all lives lost in all conflicts.
We would love to have family, close friends and comrades in attendance and invite all to stand by your hero’s KM marker to greet the runners and say a few words when they stop to read each name and have a moment of silence. Some Gold Star family members choose to walk/run/bike their loved one's kilometer and we can accommodate you in doing that, as well. If the assigned lap time doesn’t work with your availability, please let me know and we can arrange to move the marker to a different time. (Please see attached brochure with the schedule of laps.)
Between 11:30-2:30, we will provide a cookout lunch, host various military groups and performers, and we are introducing an educational activity for children and adults that will explore the military museum and exhibits on site at the park, Also, this year as part of our public education and awareness focus, we will have a Gold Star family tent where families can speak with guests about their loved ones. Some families will be bringing photos and memorabilia to share (11:30-2:30). If you are interested in speaking with visitors in the Gold Star tent, please let me know and I would be happy to speak with you further about it.
The Remembrance Ceremony begins at 2:30pm after the last group of runners arrives and we would love to have you, family and friends join us. A children’s run will join the last group of runners around the memorial (400 meters) if you have any children who may be interested in participating. We have some wonderful guest speakers and will be presenting Honor and Remember flags to two Connecticut families.
A full schedule of events and more information about our organization is available on our website: runforthefallenct.org and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Run.for.the.fallen.CT/. If you are planning to attend, Gold Star family registration is also available on our website. We will be putting together a tribute video of our heroes to show to visitors during the day and so any photos that you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. For more information, please contact:
